Jude Law would like to stop all the baby seal killing in Canada

The Word Trade Organization (WTO) is weighing whether or not to uphold a European Union ban on the trade of seal fur -- and Jude Law hopes they do.

The British actor wrote a letter on behalf of the controversial animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), urging the WTO not to overturn the 2010 decision to ban the trade of seal fur. The ban was put into place amid concerns about the inhumane practices of seal hunting.

"I'm writing to urge the panel to uphold this ban," the letter read, "which is in line with the wishes of compassionate people all around the world, including the majority of European citizens...Even local sentiment is turning, and a lack of markets has led Canadian officials to seriously examine whether the slaughter should end."

Canada's seal hunting season began at the beginning of the month. Each year in Canada, hundreds of thousands of seals, which are often juveniles or even babies, are hunted for their fur as part of the sealing season.
