Goodwill Glitter Sale celebrates 30 years of glamour and charity

For the 30th year in a row, Seattle's Goodwill warehouse will throw open its doors for two days of glitz, glamour...and clamoring for the best deals on designer duds. This weekend marks the 30th Annual Goodwill Glitter Sale, a seasonal event that benefits Goodwill's free job training and education program.

The Glitter Sale, which is often a frenzy of good-natured bargain hunters, features the year's most high-end apparel, shoes, and accessories, ranging from jewelry to cocktail dresses and designer shoes and handbags, as well as formal menswear.

The sale lasts for two days and draws crowds of thousands. Many shoppers show up hours before the doors open at 6am to ensure they get in, as only a limited number of shoppers are allowed in the warehouse at a time. However, curb the need to camp out, Goodwill has implemented a numbering system and text message alerts to allow potential shoppers to receive a number, and then wait to be admitted.

Two food trucks will also be camped outside to allow shoppers to get a bite to eat or a cup of coffee while they wait.

This year's Glitter Sale promises to be bigger than ever, says Cindi Forslund, Vice President of Operations for Goodwill

"This year we expanded the Glitter Sale space, so there are even more fabulous items to shop."

And while the Glitter Sale is great for shoppers, it's also important for Goodwill's mission to provide jobs and job training for thousands of King County residents.

"I am excited to be celebrating 30 years of the Glitter Sale because this is one of the ways to support our free job training and education programs," said Forslund.

Last year, Goodwill saw over 8,500 individuals in their job training and education programs.

Tips for a successful Glitter Sale shopping spree include wearing slip-on shoes and clothing that is easy to slip other clothing over (there are no dressing rooms, so all trying on of clothes happens in the aisles). You can get a full list of FAQs from Goodwill's website.

Admission to the Glitter Sale is free. Because parking is limited, Goodwill has partnered with towncar service Uber to provide discounted service to first-time users.

The Goodwill Glitter Sale runs Saturday and Sunday from 9am until 6pm. For more information visit Goodwill's website.
