WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) “Star Wars” fans got their first look at the next film in the series Friday.
“Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,” scheduled for release in December 2017, picks up the saga where 2015’s “The Force Awakens” left off.
The film’s director, Rian Johnson, and much of the cast appeared at “The Last Jedi” panel at the “Star Wars Celebration” event in Orlando Friday. At the end of the event, Johnson introduced the first trailer for the film, showing the brief, ominous footage twice to an enthralled crowd.
Coming up on the livestream (above) later on Friday afternoon will be a panel on the making of “Rogue One” and “Smooth Talkin’ with Billy Dee Williams.”
The weekend-long Celebration commemorates the 40th anniversary of the May 1977 release of “Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.”
George Lucas, director of the original trilogy and the prequel films, appeared at an anniversary panel with star Harrison Ford and others Thursday. The event included an emotional tribute to Carrie Fisher, who died in December after reprising her role as Leia to film scenes for “The Last Jedi.”
