SEATTLE, Wash. - Kurt Cobain, an American musician and frontman of the band Nirvana, died 23 years ago.
The rock star from Washington state struggled with heroin addiction, health problems and depression before committing suicide April 5, 1994 at age 27.
He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, along with Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, in their first year of eligibility.
He is survived by his wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Frances, now 24, was under 2 years old when her father died.
She posted a tribute to her late father in February this year on what would have been his 50th birthday.
Nirvana was at the height of their popularity, with In Utero, their follow-up to their 1991 smash hit album Nevermind topping America's Billboard Hot 200 chart, just months before Cobain's death.
