AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) – Oscar-winning actor and Austin icon Matthew McConaughey and his family hosted a virtual bingo game for the residents at a senior center over the weekend.

The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living has frequent bingo nights, but has never had a celebrity host.

Last September, the residents and team members at The Enclave posted a video on social media requesting McConaughey to join them for bingo.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, McConaughey had the time and ability to answer this call.

Since an in-person visit wasn't an option due to the coronavirus, McConaughey and his mother, Kay, and wife, Camila, joined residents for several rounds of virtual bingo, calling each draw out as a family.

When a BINGO was called, that resident got to ask McConaughey a question as their prize.

“Our team members can’t interact with the residents the way we normally do, so we have been doing everything possible to uplift them virtually. This was a wish come true! The residents absolutely loved seeing Matthew and his family and enjoyed hearing him talk about what he’s doing to get through this crisis. It gave them hope and was the boost that they needed to get through this lonely, challenging time,” shares Molly Davis Nedley, the sales director at The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living.

Last week, McConaughey joined Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhart to record a video urging young people and UT students to stay home and stay safe.
