Lighten the load: Octavia Spencer finds solace in 'The Shack'

(KUTV) Octavia Spencer was well aware of Wm. Paul Young's novel "The Shack" long before she was offered the role of Papa in the film adaptation. She had read and enjoyed the novel's combination of crime investigation and religious themes.

Taking on the role of Papa proved to be a challenge, one that she overthought, but when she was able to approach the role on a very simplistic level she found insight into how she should play the character.

Spencer acknowledges the nontraditional look at the Trinity, but believes that those who have read the novel will understand and appreciate the way that Papa is depicted.

Ultimately, Spencer hopes that the film will help those that are troubled to feel like they have a lighter load to burden when the credits roll.
